Pediatric Dentist

Department: Glendale Dental
Location: Glendale, CA

Job Summary 

Responsible for the provision of all aspects pediatric dental care for clinic patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Exemplifies excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, and other employees; shows courtesy, friendliness, helpfulness, and respect.
  • Performs all phases of direct pediatric dental care.
  • Records patient-dentist interactions and services in the patient’s dental records so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the visit, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
  • Serves on the dental staff and other center committees as assigned.
  • Responsible to adhere to the dental department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by the Medical Director which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
  • Participates in short and long term program planning for the dental department and the agency, including development of goals and objectives.
  • Travels when necessary to fulfill CCHC’s needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the dental department.
  • Implements Clinic’s philosophy, priorities and goals while providing dental care.
  • Works with community oral health projects as assigned by the Dental Director.
  • Performs clinic projects as assigned by the Dental Director.
  • Performs oral examinations of patients to assess oral health; records the number of teeth and their condition, position and relationship to each other. Notes the type, size and location of fillings, checks condition of gums and evaluates bone support for teeth.
  • Discusses and is aware of financial issues and treatment options to patients.
  • Performs extractions and restorative care on patients as needed.
  • Diagnoses and treats pathological conditions; prescribe medications for treatment as needed.
  • Constructs appliances such as crowns, jackets and space maintainers.
  • Assists in the clinical evaluation of the hygienist(s) and dental assistants.
  • Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.


Education and Experience

  • Graduate of a School of Dentistry, graduate of a CODA accredited pediatrics dental residency.
  • Current unrestricted State of California Dental License, BLS Certification, and DEA.
  • Experience working, as a pediatric dentist preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of dental principles and treatment procedures including prevention of pain, infection, loss of teeth developing dentition; knowledge in public health principles; ability to be compassionate and culturally sensitive towards under-served populations; must be able to provide: highest quality of clinic care to all pediatric patients
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.
  • Good interpersonal skills are needed in communicating clearly and compassionately with patients and their families.
  • Effectively work patients into their schedules as the caseload demands and respond to a variety of unforeseen daily circumstances, including emergency care of patients.
  • Ability to see patients in a timely and efficient manner, staying reasonably on time for scheduled appointments throughout the day, unless exceptional circumstances occur.

Physical Demands

  • Physical requirements for this position include: hearing, seeing, speaking, feeling, talking, reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions.
  • This position requires sitting for long periods of time and walking and/or standing is only required occasionally.
  • This position requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force and/or an insignificant amount in order to lift, carry, pull, or move objects.
