Security Guard

Department: Glendale Medical
Location: Glendale, CA

JOB SUMMARY

Provides unarmed security and protection for patients, visitors, and colleagues, as well as buildings and grounds. May be called upon to provide assistance in many different circumstances, settings and weather.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patrols assigned clinics on foot or by vehicle; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, and unauthorized persons.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of all areas at designated times to ascertain their conditions of security and safety.
  • Performs monthly preventative maintenance and required equipment checks, i.e.: fire extinguishers, door alarms and panel, building alarms, all doors and locks.
  • Prepares logs or reports as required for post, writes or types reports entering information in a computer.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic as requested by clinic management or COO. Effectively deals with individuals who are unauthorized to park in parking lots or loiter in parking lots
  • Checks suspicious packages as directed.
  • Responds to all Codes and alarms in accordance with CCHC’s safety and emergency policies. Coordinates with local Police, Fire, and Emergency personnel as indicated.
  • Responds to and investigates reported thefts, disturbances and incidents. Responds to medical emergency call such as slips or falls in the facility or on the grounds, and assists with transport within building, awaiting ambulance or authorities as the case warrants.
  • Performs patient watch or observation as directed. Responds appropriately to a variety of human service issues, including domestic abuse, substance abuse, forensic patients, psychiatric cases, and anxious/upset visitors. Maintains composure and professional demeanor in an occasionally chaotic environment. Practices universal precautions. Restrains patients as necessary utilizing de-escalation techniques.
  • Effectively and compassionately interacts and deals with homeless individuals who loiter, setup encampments at the clinics, who are engaged in illicit activity, or who panhandle patients and staff.       Coordinates with local Police, shelters or other community based organizations who support homeless individuals.
  • Identifies and reports fire safety hazards. Keep fire exits, fire doors, corridor access and extinguishing equipment clear. Immediately notify appropriate personnel when equipment may be out of order and in need of repair or replacement.
  • Performs courier, delivery, and retrieval duties as directed for items such as deposits, pharmacy items, vaccines, charts, specimens, x-rays and other equipment. Delivers and retrieves items at off site facilities.
  • Upholds CCHC’s Mission, Vision and Values, and its policies and procedures. Complies with behavioral expectations and maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to our patient experience standards.
  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in and successfully completes mandatory education and training
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of CCHC


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a security professional.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with surveillance skills, dealing with uncertainty, judgment, objectivity, dependability, emotional control, integrity, safety management, professionalism, and reporting skills.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  •  Must be licensed by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and possess a valid security guard license
  •  Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and federal licensing and permit requirements
  •  Must have a valid California Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing
  •  Must possess vehicle insurance
  •  High School diploma or equivalent
  •  Must be at least 21 years of age
  •  Must have access to a vehicle which can be used to provide the duties outlined in this job description
  •  Must be able to work a flexible schedule based upon the clinic’s needs, follow detailed procedures and have good customer service skills. Must be able to work independently, weekends and after hours will be required from time to time
  •  Required to utilize rapid and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires prolong sitting, walking, driving, some bending, lifting, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard photocopy machine, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.

NOTE: Due to constantly changing demands, the Security Guard must be flexible and capable of assuming new duties as they arise from time to time. Employees hired for this position must be able to perform the essential functions of this job without imposing significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others
